Remove USB3 v_bus

Is it possible to power the BFS-U3 via the GPIO cable only and cut v_bus on the USB3 cable? 
We tried and the cameras are not powering up.

  Our USB3 cameras require VBus to enumerate the PHY, even if you are powering the camera over GPIO.  We do not have a method to allow running our USB3 cameras without VBus coming over the USB cable.
