SpinView_QT on MacOS and BF USB3 - no continuous playback
AnsweredWe're using SpinView_QT app on MacOS 14 with a BlackFly USB3 mono camera. Hitting the PLAY button in the UI only samples one frame - it doesn't continuously play back. Acquisition mode is set to Continuous and Frame Rate is 30. No triggers. This works on a different system/camera.
Any suggestions on what we could be missing?
(Note: we're running SpinView in Rosetta mode on an ARM M1 Mac)

Hello Paul,
When you say this works on different systems/cameras, do you mean our BFS works on other Mac systems, or does it work on Windows and/or Ubuntu?
I ask because our Spinnaker SDK currently does not support Apple Silicon M1/M2 processors. We are currently working on this and hope to have something out by the end of Q1, but I expect that is the reason you are having these issues.
This is not a BFS limitation however, so if you have third party software that works with USB3 Vision cameras, then the BFS camera should work fine.
If the same camera streams fine on Windows or Ubuntu, then I do not think it is a camera setting, but rather Spinnaker not being supported on M1/M2 systems.
Thank you,

Yes I realize the SDK doesn't support ARM64 yet - that isn't really a problem as we are able to run our application in Rosetta emulation mode. However, this specifically concerns SpinView_QT, which we are running under Rosetta emulation and which does work - EXCEPT for the continuous updae from the camera. We haven't run into anything that Rosetta doesn't emulate correctly so I just wanted to see if this is a known issue or perhaps just a camera setting that isn't enabled correctly.

Hi Paul, could we do a remote session to see if we could see a setting that could be different?
If the same camera runs fine in Windows or Ubuntu without you changing settings, I expect the camera settings should be fine. In the GUI, there is a continuous play button, and a single acquisition play button. Are you possibly using the single acquisition button?

The problem is the camera is at a customer site. I've never seen that particular problem with SpinView before with our own experiments - we definitely have the acquisition mode set to Continuous. When the arrow button is pressed, it'll show a single frame (as if it was in single-frame mode), and the FPS display at the bottom says 0fps, though we enabled FPS and set it to 30. If we press the stop button and then the left-most green arrow again, it'll once again capture one frame and then stop.
It's almost exactly as if the acquisition mode was set to single frame.0 -
Hi Paul, as long as the customer is not accidently using the middle button, there is clearly something else wrong.
If it is a camera state, I recommend going to the feature tree and loading the default user set:
Are there any logs under ${HOME}/.config/spinnaker/logs/?
Thanks,

Oh - we were looking for a way to "factory reset" the camera - we'll try that one! Thanks.

Hello Paul,
Just following up to see if resetting the camera helped, or if you found what the customer may have been doing wrong?
If there is still an issue, we can raise a support ticket and do a remote session to see what is going on.
Thank you,
Demos
