switch off camera
AnsweredI am looking for an easy way to switch of a BFLY-U3-23S6M-C camera (to avoid unnecessary heating of the camera), without removing the USB cable.
One option would be to feed it via the 12V GPIO pin instead of via the USB port, but how can I "tell" the camera that it should take the supply voltage only from the GPIO pin and not from the USB bus?

Hi Rik,
I'm afraid that is not possible on the camera.
The only option would be to disable power on the USB port, which is supported on some host controllers: https://www.flir.co.uk/support-center/iis/machine-vision/knowledge-base/remotely-power-cycle-a-usb-3.1-camera/Best regards,

Hello Manuel,
Thank you for the info.
But maybe a USB power blocker is the easier way to prevent the camera from being powered via the USB port.Another question:
The Blackfly U3 Technical Reference (p 24) states that the camera can be powered via the GPIO pin 1 with 5V to 24V.
Will the power consumption of the camera (and thus also the CCD sensor temperature) rise at higher supply voltages?Best regards, Rik

Just for closure and for future reference, the follow up question on power consumption was answered in Powering a BFLY-U3-23S6M-C camera via the GPIO pin 1 – FLIR Systems (zendesk.com).
