Powering a BFLY-U3-23S6M-C camera via the GPIO pin 1
AnsweredI want to power a BFLY-U3-23S6M-C camera via the GPIO pin 1.
The Blackfly U3 Technical Reference (p 24) states that the required voltage is 5V to 24V.
Will the power consumption of the camera, and thus also the CCD sensor temperature, depend on the voltage supplied?
Or to put the question differently: is the internal voltage regulation (to 3.3V I assume) done by a linear voltage regulator of by a switched voltage regulator?

Hello Rik,
The 3.3V uses a switching regulator. I don't have the actual numbers, but I assume that 24V will have a slightly higher power consumption due to switching loss at higher input voltage.

Hello Manuel,
thanks for the information.
I have 12V available, so I will try that.
But that raises an additional question:
What if I apply 12V to GPIO pin 1 and the USB cable is connected.
Will the camera be powered from the 12V at the GPIO pin 1 or the 5V applied via the USB cable?Best regards,
Rik

Hello Rik,
The camera will chose the higher voltage of the two sources but it always needs the V5 via the USB cable to power up and work properly.
Best regards,
Manuel
