How to get IP address of ethernet camera
AnsweredThis is my first time using an ethernet camera. I need to get the video stream on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.
It is a Flir BFS-PGE-23S3C-C. I connect it to my router through a PoE injector. But the router (with DHCP) does not show the camera on the list of connected devices.
The camera has an LED that blnks green 3 times. According to the manual that means the camera is in DHCP mode, so I assume it would show up and be assigned an IP address.
The camera has been used by a former colleague of mine, so it may have some custom configurations that I don't know about.

Hello Anders,
First off, to stream image with this camera would require to install our spinnaker sdk (https://www.teledynevisionsolutions.com/products/spinnaker-sdk/ ) or third party software that support GigE Vision interface standard (such as Matlab, Matrox, HALCON, Labview, etc). For more information regarding this camera model, please visit camera product page from our website (https://www.teledynevisionsolutions.com/en-150/products/blackfly-s-gige/), click on “DOCUMENTATION & DRAWINGS” tab from bottom page to download camera getting started or installation guide.
Secondly, spinnaker sdk currently support up to ubuntu 22.04 LTS. Therefore, I would downgrade to this OS or lower version to stream image from this camera. We plan to support ubuntu 24.04 LTS in future, but until then please ensure to use supported version while testing the camera. Besides, BFS-PGE-23S3C-C is not IP-based camera, and therefore very important to ensure cable connection to host PC with dedicated port/network.
Finally, with x3 green LED blinks should be persistent IP address and not DHCP (which is x2 blinks). In general, spinnaker should be able to detect camera even with wrong IP address. However, occasionally in ubuntu machine, camera would fail to enumerate with wrong Persistent IP address, and have to be updated or disabled.
For more information about IP configuration, please reference below KB articles:
Ubuntu: https://www.teledynevisionsolutions.com/support/support-center/troubleshooting/iis/persistent-ip-in-spinnakerqt/
Windows: https://www.teledynevisionsolutions.com/support/support-center/application-note/iis/setting-up-multiple-gige-cameras-with-spinnaker/I hope the provided information help to resolve the current issue with this camera.
Thanks,
Ifeanyi.
