PyPI
InactiveDear FLIR team,
would it be possible to add a binary distribution of PySpin to the Python Package Index (pypi.org)? The manual installation requires creation of a user and download of a wheel file which makes the API extremely unwieldy to use as a dependency in Python projects and not suitable for end-users.
It is possible to publish packages under a proprietary license at pypi.org - and with a binary distribution no source code would be made public.
Thank you and kind regards

Thank you for the suggestion, I have asked our software team if this is something we are willing to do.
Please note that you would still need to use the Spinnaker installer to install Spinnaker beside PySpin, and you would still need to accept the EULA and add the user to the imaging group and set USBFS, all of which the installer takes care of.
Adding PySpin itself to make it easier to install can be an improvement, but the other requirements would still be there.
Thank you,
Demos

Dear Demos, thanks a lot for forwarding this to your software team!
I realize that Spinnaker itself will still need installing. Having Spinnaker's download link behind a forced login is not ideal from an end-user perspective as it complicates the setup procedure quite a bit - but I understand the rationale in principle.
Having PySpin on the Python Package Index would still be a big help though, not only for the initial installation, but also for keeping a PySpin dependency up to date.
Thanks again and kind regards0
